Poombah Pencil

Pencil poppers are a staple plug for any surf fisherman.   This is a surface plug usually danced over the top of the water using a relatively fast retrieve and quick twitching of the rod tip.  Because of the erratic action a fish will often miss its first strike but will come back and strike again, so keep retrieving and twitching.  Sometimes slowing down a bit to simulate a stunned baitfish works well.
